Pastel Rainbow Unicorn Birthday Party

I am so excited to finally share this pastel rainbow unicorn party! This party was early in summer for this adorable little princess turning one. By far this unicorn party was my favorite yet and absolutely loved putting together all the pieces for this theme. Rainbows and unicorns go hand in hand but I loved the more muted palette of pastels. Iridescent touches bring extra sparkle to this whimsical theme.

The Tables

There were two tables set up for guests, with matching unicorn decorations and linens. I covered the tables with simple white tablecloths then placed these inexpensive iridescent sequin runners.  Then two sets of flower arrangements were placed on each table. A unicorn party needs some unicorns, with these paper mache unicorns from Target. I simply did a few coats of white spray paint then used acrylic paint to do the manes and horns in light pink, blue and yellow. To add some pastel rainbow touches I sprinkled some paper confetti on the tables. Lastly, these tiny disco balls were the final touch for this unicorn first birthday, I just cut off the strings for hanging them.

Photo Wall

Everyone wants memories of the little in your life’s first Birthday! A photo backdrop and props give a fun place for guests to take photos together and with the birthday girl. Having a backdrop also makes a good clean background for cake smashes. This backdrop is the same as the runners being an iridescent sequin material and I bought the 8 x 8′ option. To hang the backdrop I bought an inexpensive light curtain rod held up with three large command hooks. Using large command hooks allows me to hang things without damaging walls. I purchased the props from Amazon letting everyone feel a little extra magical at this unicorn party.  To make the birthday banner, I cut two of each word in felt with my Cricut machine. I then hot glue gunned the two-piece to each other with the string in the middle. You can buy fabric stiffeners at your local craft store to make it stiffer if you want. You could also cut from paper and glue the string in back or thread through the paper. If you don’t have a Cricut you can find sellers that make custom banners like this on Etsy.

Unicorn Bust and Balloon Arch

Isn’t this stuffed head the cutest! This unicorn head was purchased at Target and hung with one large command hook. I used faux flowers to the cover up the hook. Above it we made this fun pastel rainbow balloon garland. You can use fishing line to string all the balloons along and use a low temp glue gun to fill in holes. You can also buy a balloon garland kit with a strip to hold the balloons and use glue dots to stick smaller balloons in the gaps. The final touch was this felt banner I made using my Cricut Maker that says “You are something magical”.  I made this banner the same as the birthday banner.

Felt Unicorn Garland

I loved making this felt unicorn garland with my Cricut Maker. If you have a Cricut and want to make it yourself I have shared it so anyone can use my template by clicking here. You can make this out of paper or out of felt like I did. As the same as the other banners, I made two cuts for each unicorn of the white body. Then I glued them together with a hot glue gluing the string in the middle. I placed the string a little close to the top and in a way that would be distributed so it wouldn’t just fall forward. After this, I glued on top the piece for the manes, tales, and hooves along with the small black dot for the eye. If you use felt, stiffening before you cut or buying pre-stiffened sheets works best. Finally, I used a gold paint pen to paint the horns.

Extra Touches

Add-ons like these plates and napkins really add to the whimsy of this unicorn party. Along with the serving items, the cupcakes and cake purchased for this party are almost too pretty to eat! With additional pastel rainbow colors and large sprinkles, they are perfectly fitting with the theme of a day.
