I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and if you were celebrating with a Kentucky Derby party like we did, that you were betting on Always Dreaming! I wanted to share with you the outcome of our run for the roses party to watch the most exciting two minutes in sports. In my previous posts I had the free derby printables with the horse bios and betting sheets to get everyone involved and in the derby mood. The horse bios were placed in frames that I had above the food table along with a felt “run for the roses” banner I made. I also put some red roses in a mint julep cup from amazon, Oggi Mint Julep Cup, 12 oz, Stainless Steel to give it some extra derby flair.
Table Decorations
For the table I made a tablecloth from fabric that I bought at . I also bought on Amazon this preserved moss mat that I cut in half lengthwise and laid both on the table to make a longer and narrower runner for the table. Fun Express Vinyl Plastic Horses Toy – 12 Pieces, from Amazon were layered on top along with these tiny roses from the craft section of Walmart. The larger roses and horseshoes I made myself from felt and were left over from the photo wall garland.
Mint Juleps
A mint Julep Bar is a must for a derby party. It’s a good idea to put out all the ingredients and tools with instructions so guests can tend to themselves and make their own cocktails to their liking. Here I have a Cocktail Muddler – Stainless Steel – Grooved Nylon Head – Create Delicious Refreshing Cocktails by Decodyne., as well as a OXO SteeL Double Jigger from Amazon with multiple measurements.
Photo Wall
This photo backdrop was made with two pieces of fabric sewn side by side that are 3 yards long from . Loops sewn at the top made it easy to hang with command hooks so the walls wouldn’t be damaged by these temporary decorations. I also made a garland with felt roses and horse shoes that draped across the the backdrop. This gives a great place for guests to make memories and take photos of their fun hats. You even get to see husband holding one of our chihuahuas, Lola!
I hope you enjoyed a recap on our Derby event and stay tuned for some new party themes to come!
