For any of you that have watched Parks and Recs, you may recall the episode about Galentine’s Day being February 13th to celebrate the ladies in your life. Here’s a clip of the show where Leslie describes what Galentine’s Day is all about.
Galentine’s day is the 13th which fell on a Monday this year, so I decided to host a late Galentine’s day Sunday Brunch with a neutral palette of creams and light pinks. The neutral blush decor with brunch would also work great for a bridal shower or baby shower as well. Here’s a break down of all the decorations for this day time get together.
The Table:
My dining room isn’t exactly large and I did not have enough room to fit everyone, so I decided to clear out some furniture in my living room and use two 6′ folding tables to be able to all sit down at once. When I use folding tables I like to use a base table cloth that covers the legs and just brushes on the floor to give it a more finished look. I bought mine on Amazon for about $13 with prime, LinenTablecloth 90 x 132-Inch Rectangular Polyester Tablecloth Ivory and this one fits standard 6ft folding tables perfectly. I use them constantly when I’m entertaining and are really affordable. I like to then layer another tablecloth as a topper that fits more with the colors of the gathering. This tablecloth I made is extra long to be able to cover both tables with one piece to look like one long table, the fabric is Kaufman Shimmer II Metallic Feathers Frost. Next comes the gold chargers that I had originally from homegoods a while back, with my white plates and pink cotton napkins. I made these napkins last summer from some inexpensive cotton quilting fabric but if your not up for sewing you can buy inexpensive polyester napkins from Amazon. It was easy to fold them into adorable heart shapes with this picture tutorial on Pintrest. The gold flatware to match these lovely chargers were purchased online used on ebay, it’s a great alternative to buying an extra set inexpensively.
The row of centerpieces was very simple and put together mostly from things I happened to already have. I recently have been really interested in succulents, and last weekend bought a couple from Walmart for about $4 a plant and potted them in these Ikea pots, so just grabbed them from my kitchen, instead of spending a lot of money on just flowers. I bought two sets of flowers and mixed them in the same blush color. One was a set of 10 tulips for about $8 and a special at the grocery store of 6 roses for $5. I think the greens of the tulips add enough instead of over packed bunches, placed in some glasses I had from Homegoods that were sold as drinking glasses. Lastly, is the mason jars filled with fairy string lights. Since it was brunch I thought it might seem odd to have lit candles but I enjoy a little extra sparkle from lights. I had made these jars years ago by using modge podge and large glitter and painting to the outside, then using wire to make the hooks so I can hang them too. Just know that if you put the jars up to one another for a while it can kind of stick to each other and peel away a bit so I suggest giving them some space in between when stored. The little glow comes from a small battery strand of fair string lights that are great for jars and glass hurricane’s. I purchased a set of 6 lights, each about 7ft long for only $9 with Amazon Prime.
The Bar:
There is one cocktail that goes hand in hand with brunch; and that is Mimosa’s! I used a little entry table I had to set up a bar station with a rose gold sequin runner from Amazon Prime for about $10. Then I put a platter with three different juices for mixing (or to drink alone) to catch condensation next to cheap glass flutes from Walmart. I also wanted to include a pitcher of water with some lemon slices to give guests options, again placing on a plate to catch condensation in order not to damage the wood table. I love the this wine stand my mom found for me on a trip, its interesting and saves room on the bar area, you can find one most likely at Homegoods or you one on Amazon like this one, Wine Bucket with Pipe Style Stand. One thing I like to do with ice buckets of any sorts is to use a sheet of those reusable ice packs that is flexible, it keeps the bottles cold and makes it easy to wrap around and be able to slide the bottle out for easy pouring. Lastly, is this amazing print quoting Leslie Knope from Parks and Recs from Danielle Robbins Etsy shop and hung with temporary command strips. It’s an instant download on Etsy as a card, but I cropped it and had it printed large at Staples as a color engineer print for about $4.
Now you can’t have brunch without some delicious breakfast food, go to my easy make ahead brunch menu that will keep you out of the kitchen and give you more time to talk to your guests. I hope this inspires you to host your closest gal’s and celebrate lady friendships.
