This year I wanted to try something different and flock a real tree. Why you ask? Well if you haven’t followed me for long you know that every year I change up my Christmas tree decorations just a bit, usually with a different color scheme. Since this year my husband and I will be the only ones enjoying this tree with no holiday guests I decided to go for a theme that really made me happy. I’m dreaming of a PINK CHRISTMAS!
When looking at inspo ideas for my pink Christmas I saw many of them were flocked trees for a lighter, airier, and snowy look. Since I didn’t have a fake flocked tree and didn’t want to purchase one. I looked into buying a biodegradable tree flock but didn’t find anything I could get rather quickly. This led me to research being able to flock a real tree and found a few variations. This is what I ended up doing:
DIY Tree Flock Recipe:
- 1cup Elmers Glue (I used the kids Washable Non Toxic)
- 3cup of Foam Shaving Cream (Think Barbasol Style)
- 1/4 cup of Cornstarch
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and whisk for a few minutes (I did it by hand so nothing crazy). I then used my kitchen gloves to distribute with my hands all over my tree. This was enough to lightly flock my 6ft tree. If you would like a heavier flock or have a larger tree you may need to make 2-3 batches. I basically put a small ball in my hands and closed them onto the branch, dragging my hands to the ends.
I waited 24hrs for it to dry before putting up decorations. When it dried it doesn’t seem to be crumbling and is more spongey or like dried foam. I’m really excited to show you more about how I decorate this tree and let me know if you decide to flock a real tree. For more Christmas Tree ideas check out my past trees below.
