Every year during the holiday time I am all about the string lights, particularly Christmas window lights. In the last few years, I’ve experimented with a few different ideas. I’ve done the icicle lights, regular strands of lights, but this year I decided to try fairy string lights.
If you’re unfamiliar with fairy string lights, they are small dewdrop-like lights on a metal wire. They make the perfect Christmas window lights. The wire helps keep the shape and it’s very thin and light. Another thing I love compared to regular lights is each light is in a tidy straight row. This looks a little more polished in my opinion. I also appreciate that they are streamlined and don’t feel bulky during the day.
How to Hang Fairy Christmas Window Lights
If you already have lights you want to use you can hang them with command hooks. Command hooks are my holiday decorating best friend from lights, stockings, and much more. They allow me to hang things without permanent damage.
The only thing I will say is that I haven’t had good luck with the clips that come with the clear adhesive. I choose the white or clear hooks with the white adhesive on walls but ok on hard nonporous surfaces like glass. The white clip adhesive strips are relatively easy to remove damage-free as long as you pull to remove really slowly on things like the white vinyl part of the window (you’ll only see on the inside) or the walls.
I would only use clear command adhesive on glass where you can remove more easily without damage to the surface underneath. Clear strips often damage walls.
They no longer make these spool clips but you can use the appropriate command hook to the size of the lights. I use the smallest with the fairy string lights. Placing on the glass means you can see them from outside also but the thin fairy lights don’t feel heavy.
